Field Works is an exhibition by Selfish Customs exploring the relationship between contemporary furniture making, landscape and place. Presented in a standalone gallery at Maple Farm on the Suffolk coast, the exhibition brings together a collection of handcrafted furniture and objects informed by the colours, materials and agricultural setting of the surrounding landscape.
An opportunity to experience the colour and materiality led process intrinsic to our studio values.
Showcasing new works and highlights from our collection Field Works draws inspiration from the agricultural surroundings of Maple Farm and the Suffolk coast. Every piece is hand cast in the studio's Suffolk workshop and demonstrates how bespoke commissions evolve from an initial idea into carefully resolved furniture and objects; bringing together a body of work that celebrates materiality, craftsmanship and thoughtful design.
The exhibition also offers visitors the opportunity to experience the work as it is intended to be seen. Rather than viewed through a screen, the collection can be encountered in person, allowing the richness of colour, texture, scale and material to be fully appreciated.
